Since June of 2005,
Valerie Bullock and her
"Mini Ministers", Chief Red Cloud and Little Red Man have visited 150 facilities which include Assisted Living centers, special care and skilled nursing homes, homes for the disabled and Alzheimer care centers.
Each visit brings to mind, forgotten memories and the words to describe those memories. Sometimes just a smile tells us that we have made a connection to a memory from so long ago.
We visit in large rooms, small rooms and private apartments. We visit folks who need assistance with a walker, those who are wheelchair bound and many who can never leave their beds. But each time the results are the same. Lots of wonderful stories from the past..."I rode a pony to school.", "My parents farmed with horses." " Can I pet them. ?" But the biggest reward are the words,
" I REMEMBER! " ...... and that is why we go visiting......
It is said, "Once a horse person, always a horse person." It does not matter how young or old we horse people are, from 9 to 90, there is something about the feel of a horse, their special smell, their soft noses, that is sorely missed if we cannot have contact on a regular basis.
